Board of Elections

The Board of Elections of Chatham County functions as the superintendent of elections and conducts primaries and elections in accordance with State law. The Board performs all services and functions necessary to support the election process. The Board establishes boundaries for voting precincts, secures facilities to serve as polling locations for these precincts, recruits, selects, hires, trains and assigns personnel to serve as poll officials. The board also conducts qualification for candidates, develops ballots for elections, acquires, maintains, prepares and delivers equipment used to conduct elections, publicizes notices as required by law and maintains elections records.

The Board of Elections of Chatham County holds its regular monthly meeting on the second Monday of every month at 3:30pm.

Voter Education - Things to Know

Prior to Election Day – confirm your registration and poll location by calling Voter Registration at 912-790-1520 or use the website poll locator at Keep your residence and mailing address updated with the Voter Registration Office. Political preference is required.

Voting by Mail 2016 General Primary and Nonpartisan Election:  Request for mail out absentee ballots may be submitted as early as 180 days prior to the Election. Mail out of absentee ballots will begin as soon as possible and end on July 22, 2016. Requests may be submitted either by mail (P.O. Box 13757, Savannah GA 31416) or fax (912-790-1519). Call Chatham County Voter Registration at 912-790-1520 for further details. 

Absentee Early In-Person Voting: July 5 - 22, 2016
Early in-person voting is available 21 days prior to the General Primary and Nonpartisan Election. Any eligible registered voter desiring to early vote during this period may do so in-person at the Voter Registration Main Office, 1117 Eisenhower Dr, Suite E, Savannah, GA 31406, Mon – Fri, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. No reason is required for absentee early voting.

You may sign up to vote at any time, but you must register by the established registration deadline prior to an election if you wish to vote on election day.
